I have been a parent of Great Ouse Primary Academy since 2018 and observed the growth of the Academy with enthusiasm. I now wish to support the governing body and contribute to the strategic direction and continuing success of the school.

I have 12 years experience in safeguarding vulnerable adults and children both in local government and private social health care services. My strengths lie with working with people with learning difficulties, complex needs, physical disabilities and those experiencing homelessness.

I am a methodical, logical and measured thinker and professionally work with others to critically analyse situations to ensure the best outcomes.

I am comfortable with and understand the importance of asking questions to challenge professionals and ensure service excellence. I am personable and approachable with excellent communication skills.

As a family, we have faced our own challenges and it was the safe and secure environment of the school that helped my child overcome her concerns. This personal experience, in line with my professional practices, have provided me with an in-depth understanding of what is required from the school, parents/carers and the child to achieve their desired goals.

I've played an active parent role within the school and most recently, I have supported staff and students with their activities outside of the school, in particular their physical education.

I wish to further contribute and give back to the wider community for the benefit of those who attend the school and strongly believe that my knowledge and experience are transferable to a parent governor role.

Rachel Stratton - Parent

Having worked as a teacher and Senior Leader in Bedford for over 20 years, I am passionate about education and the vital role it plays in our children’s lives.

Pastoral care has always been central to my teaching career, guided by the mantra that if children are happy and feel safe, they will learn well. In my current school, I oversee safeguarding, behaviour, SEND and PSHE. As a mother of two boys, the youngest of whom has just started his journey at Great Ouse following in his brothers’ footsteps, I am keen to offer my experience and knowledge to support the strategic planning and oversight of this excellent school.

As a family, we feel very fortunate to live close to such a thriving, happy school, and the opportunity to be more involved in school life.
